gen:LOCK
Behind the scenes
gen:LOCK (Season 1) is a Rooster Teeth animated show that was composited solely in After Effects.
My roles in regards to gen:LOCK’s production are as a Compositor, Look Development Artist, UI/UX Designer and as a UI Outsource Manager.
As a Compositor, my job included getting Lighting renders put together according to the look template that our Look Development Artists set up beforehand. After which, I would put in a multitude of Comp FX and varying amounts of pre-made UI.
As a Look Development Artist I was apart of a team with Christina Avagliano and Amanda Gotera where we would create visual looks in the form of a template scripts for any sort of set that came up in the show. After a look was director approved, I documented rules and guidelines about the look for the other compositors.
As a UI/UX Designer, a task I inherited from our original UI Designer Penelope Nederlander, I took over implementing the UI designs in unique UX layouts. However, when called for, I would also pick up on creating new UI assets, as well as creating custom motion graphic animations for them.
Seeing my tenacity, I was also given the responsibility of a UI Outsource Manager. Due to the tall order of UI for the show, there were rounds where outsourced talent was needed. During those times, I was mostly in charge of providing any needed assets, answer any questions and provide feedback on passes from the outsourcers.
