rwby vol. 9
BEHIND THE SCENES
RWBY (Season 9) is a Rooster Teeth animated show that was lit in Autodesk Maya and 3DS Max and composited in Nuke.
My role in regards to RWBY (Season 9)’s production was as a Senior Vizpost Artist.
A Senior Vizpost Artist is a title that encapsulates the job descriptions of both a Lighter and Compositor. As well as adding leadership responsibilities such as developing templates that artists utilize to build shots and being a general support & mentor to junior and mid-level artists.
As a Lighter, it was my responsibility to confirm that the caches that came over from Final Layout were correct, then light and generate utility AOVs that would best assist me then completing the shot in the next step.
Then, as a Compositor, I was taking my lighting renders and putting them together in Nuke. All according to the look template that our Lead set up beforehand. Then, using mostly in house gizmos, rotoscoping, and various tracking methods I would apply and develop custom looks, adjust templates if need be, clean character shadows and cover clipping. After which, I would put in a multitude of UI and 2DFX as the shots required.
